You Don’t Need More Time — You Need 15 Minutes

How many times have you told yourself:

I’d love to do that… I just don’t have time.

Time to journal.

Time to create.

Time to sit outside with a cup of tea.

Time to pick some flowers.

Time to breathe.

Time to simply be.

We keep waiting for the magical quiet morning when the washing is done, everyone else is sorted, the inbox is empty and there is finally a whole afternoon waiting just for us.

But that day rarely comes.

And perhaps we don't actually need it to.

Maybe we don't need more time.

Maybe we simply need a 15 minute creative practice — a small pocket of time to slow down, make something, notice what's around us and reconnect with ourselves.

And that's where Find Your 15 begins.

The little pockets of time we overlook

Fifteen minutes doesn't sound particularly life-changing.

And that's exactly why I love it.

It's small enough that we don't need to reorganise our lives around it.

You don't need the perfect studio.

You don't need expensive art supplies.

You certainly don't need to call yourself creative.

You just need to give yourself permission to stop for a moment.

Fifteen minutes with your journal before the rest of the house wakes.

Fifteen minutes pulling weeds or picking flowers in the garden.

Fifteen minutes tearing old book pages and choosing colours simply because you love them.

Fifteen minutes sitting quietly outside noticing what is around you.

Tiny pockets of time that would otherwise disappear into scrolling, rushing and doing.

This simple idea has become an important part of The Wildflower Method.

I call it Find Your 15.

It isn't another thing to achieve.

There is no streak to maintain, no perfect morning routine and no beautifully finished journal page required at the end.

It's simply an invitation to find 15 minutes in your day that belong to you.

Some days you might create.

Some days you might journal.

Some days you might walk outside barefoot and notice what's flowering.

Some days you may sit with a horse, pull a card, breathe, pray, meditate or drink your tea while it's actually still hot.

The practice isn't really about what you do.

It's about coming back to yourself.

Creativity doesn't have to become another performance

Somewhere along the way, many of us learnt that creativity needed to produce something.

If we paint, it should be good.

If we journal, the pages should look beautiful.

If we make something, perhaps we should sell it.

And if we're not naturally “artistic”, maybe we shouldn't bother at all.

I don't believe that.

Creativity can simply be a place to play.

If you've forgotten what it feels like to create simply for the fun of it, you might also enjoy Why Grown-Ups Need Creative Play Too.

There is even research suggesting that very brief creative practices can have positive short-term effects. In one study, participants spent just 15 minutes colouring, free drawing or doing focused breathing, and all three groups showed improvements in measures including mindfulness, anxiety and mood.

You don't have to create a masterpiece.

The process itself matters.

What could you do with 15 minutes?

You could make a cup of tea and write three pages in your journal.

Gather leaves and flowers from your garden.

Tea-dye a handful of papers.

Cut out words that speak to you.

Create a tiny soul collage.

Sit beneath a tree.

Add stitching to an old book page.

Choose three colours, three textures, one word and one focal image using the 3-3-1-1 Method.

Stand at the fence and spend fifteen quiet minutes with a horse.

Or do absolutely nothing except notice the breeze, the birds and what's blooming around you.

There isn't a right way to Find Your 15.

That's the whole point.

Small things grow

A garden doesn't suddenly appear because you spent an entire weekend working on it.

It grows because you planted a seed.

Watered it.

Came back tomorrow.

Pulled a weed.

Added another plant.

And slowly, almost without noticing, something begins to bloom.

I think we're much the same.

You don't have to completely change your life this week.

You don't need a three-hour morning routine or an entire day devoted to self-care.

Plant something smaller.

Nurture them.

Protect them.

Come back again tomorrow if you can.

And see what begins to grow.
